Rabbit
by Lucy Ibbotson (aged 9)
I used to have
a rabbit
I took good care of it,
Rabbits do have habits
I forgot to say it bit.
My rabbit lived in a hutch
It got rather messy,
I loved her very much
My rabbit's name was Jessie.
I liked to let her out on grass
She never ran away,
She hopped about very fast
She loved a sunny day.
Jessie was like a flower
Such a beautiful rabbit,
then it started to shower
And I didn't know her habit.
The Last Wolves by Caitlin Dock
(aged 12)
The moon at
night,
Shines so bright,
That wolves howl and cry in unity.
Where the trees are in frost,
Their slenderness lost,
In the howl of the wolf-cry at twilight.
'Tis the hunting
winter of time,
Up steep hills the animals climb,
To escape the threats the humans make.
The rabbit and the bear,
The tortoise and the hare,
Climb steadily from the local's crime.
"Where
are the claws?
The great wolves of outdoors?
Where, oh, where are the wolves?"
The wolves have stayed back,
Hidden in a farmer's old shack,
To escape from the cold wood's floors.
But the humans
cannot seek,
What cannot outburst their own pique,
Upon the unfairness of the misjudgement the humans set.
What cannot harm you,
Is not a virtue,
But what should be in freedom, they are just being meek.
Now the wolves
are gone,
Roasted alive in the tongues of life,
Tickled by the flames that rose,
But no longer shall we hear the wolves' outcry,
They have been settled down to rest.
Robby
Robbin by D'andre Abrahams (aged

Robby Robbin

On a rocky road Robby Robbin found a rabbit

Where's the rabbit that Robby Robbin found on a rocky road?
Old
Horse by Zoe Dowling (aged 12)
His eyes are
deep and sensitive.
His feet paw the ground.
His mane sways slightly back and forth.
As you look into his eyes all you can think about is flying.
Flying, flying through, flying above all.
His heart is true his step sure he has been here before.
He flies to the top of the hill then he pauses for just a moment
and remembers his younger days.
Then he flew faster and higher.
Now he files no more.
Bubba
by Shelby Gardephe (aged 13)
My dog Bubba
is so sweet
He makes the birds tweet.
He is only 7 months old
His sister Lacey is very bold
When he wants to go out he makes a loud shout
My dog Bubba can be a pain sometimes
but he is still got more to learn

I know a giraffe that touches the sky
She will take me way up high
I know an elephant that is big and wide
It has a grey and rough side
I know a whale that is big and blue
It gives me a ride or two
I love these animals as you see
We will do this again as much as can be!!
The
Sleeping Caterpillar by Matthew
(aged 7)
This caterpillar
is very hungry,
Slimy, slippery and very struggly.
His bed is in a lovely leaf,
And he lies there very snuggly.
He lies in his leaf,
Like a green advent wreath,
And sleeps while the night passes by.
And when the day breaks,
He finally wakes
As a beautiful butterfly.
My
Rabbit Died by Scott (aged 12)
I had a rabbit,
a rabbit, a rabbit,
He died, he died, he died,
Of old age, age, age,
It was a boy, a boy, a boy,
His fur was black and white, black and white, black and white,
He lived in a hutch, a hutch, a hutch,
Made of wood, wood, wood,
He liked to run on the grass, the grass, the grass,
He was called Kevin, Kevin, Kevin,
He died, he died, he died.
My
Dog Sammy Sosij by Chloe (aged
10)
My dog Sammy
Sosij
Likes to sleep all day
Then at night
He changes a slight
He really likes to play
He runs around my living room
Up and down the stairs
Dashes under the table
And swivel around the chairs.
Then everyday he greets me
When he waits for me at school
My mates come and pat him
They think he's really cool!
His tail is always wagging
While watching my friends walk by
I really love my Sammy Sosij
And those are the reasons why
Bugs
by Alexis N. Brandt (aged 8)
I wonder why...
bugs are sticky and some are icky?
Some bugs are tall and some bugs are small!
I wonder why... some bugs fly and some bugs don't?
Some bugs stink and some bugs sting!
I wonder why... I like them all!
Invisible Fish by Taylor Cook (aged
12)
I have a pet fish,
a pink and yellow fish,
with a long neck,
seven big fins,
and a nice haircut too,
a little blue rain coat
And two very nice black shoes,
but right now I seem to have put him on invisible mode,
But I'm really hoping you can see him
when he is not away or on the go.
A
Visit to the Zoo by Nikhat Hetavkar
(aged 11)
We went to visit
a zoo
Where there were elephants too.
When we reached
there in the evening
We first saw a peacock with amazing wings.
Upon a tree
I saw a snake coiling
And in a cage, a lion roaring.
I saw a tiger
and a tigress
And a monkey making a great mess.
Playing with
a ball, a seal I saw
And a bear eating his meals raw.
I saw a crow
who looked a member of the court of law
And a fox eating a rabbit with help of his claws
I saw many others
Then it was time to get back to our mothers
We raced to
the van
As fast as we can
We had a small
fight
And then we reached home at night.
Oliver
by Lauren Lewis (aged 12)
Our cat Oliver
is so soft
He used to run up and down the ladder to the loft
He's 16 now
so all he does is meow
Our cat Oliver is a bit mad
but in this house he will never be sad
He jumps about and runs around
He looks like a cat that been lost and found
Our cat Oliver is brown and white
He's scared of our other cat in case they fight
He really stands out from other cats
He's much cooler and relaxed around rats
We love him from his head to his toes -
even his little scabby nose
Daemons
by Nicole Jackson (aged 11)
No matter where
you are,
They follow,
In any shape, any form,
Without you they drown in sorrow.
And without
them you find
Nothing but sadness and pain.
Sinking into blackness,
Never to see light again.
But they can
change!
And oh! They swoop from on high
As mighty, strong foxes of the earth
Turn to graceful, taloned eagles of the sky
Zoo
by Sam (aged 11)
I'm trapped
in a cage,
I cannot get out,
People are staring and poking at me,
I am not being fed,
And nobody loves me,
Nobody sees me for who I am.
They all just see that
I am trapped in a cage,
So they'll just stare and poke at me until I bore them.
They'll scream and they'll yell,
But I won't do a thing,
Then finally someone will free me,
I'll be loose in the world,
On my own once again.
Osprey
by William Coombs (age 7)
Sliding, gliding towards the surface
At superb speed,
Never stopping to breath.
On goes the fish
Fleeing from its mortal predator.
Forever and forever onwards
Fish are hunted
Osprey hunt.
Striking the water straight on target,
Never missing,
Swift as a cheetah.
The
Birds by Emmanuel (aged 10)
A shimmering
bluebird glides in the air,
elegant, beautiful, nice and fair.
As it glides through the daylight
It fades away into the pitch black night sky.
Cats
are Cats by Rahi De Roy (aged
8)
The independence of a cat has made quite a mark in history,
Though the disappearing of a cat at night is still a mighty mystery.
Where do they go,
to catch a late night cat-show?
Or do they slip away
to watch a midnight play?
In the middle of the night you wouldn't
sneak away because you couldn't
but remember your cats can,
perhaps jump onto the roof of a van
or do any other thing when you are sleeping at night
they may just,t hey just might
Because cats
are cats.
Dogs
by Cali (aged 8)
Dogs are soft,
Dogs are furry.
If you want to go to the dog pound we have to hurry.
I have a dog now,
He's as fast as a cat.
How do I know?
Maybe he's even as fast as the ginger-bread-man.
He gets scared when I say boo!
My sister has a dog like that too.
That's enough about that, what about you?
Sorry I have to go
I'm going to the zoo.
Love
Our Dog by Kayleigh Guinn (aged

Good
boy! Bad boy! by Kayleigh Guinn
(aged 13)
lick, lick,
licking on my leg
lay, lay, laying on his back
paws to the ceiling
jump, jump, jumping over my knees
bark, bark,
barking at the gardener
chew, chew, chewing on my stuffed cat's ear
until it is no more
steal, steal, stealing from my room
chase, chase,
chasing his friend Lini
play, play, playing with his squeaky toy
until the sound fades
smile, smile, smiling dog
gnaw, gnaw,
gnawing on the table
take, take, taking from the kitchen
Andrew's pie
eat, eat, eating from the trash
run, run, running
in the sprinkler
lap, lap, lapping from the faucet
water on his face
rise, rise, rising early in the morning
Somehow
by Nicole Jackson (aged
11)
Somehow
the cat ran
into the road and a car
came. Goodbye kitty.
I
will never forget you.
Hamster
by Emily Eckford (aged 10)
I have a hamster called ACORN
She thinks everything is FOOD
Even my FINGER.
She climbs UPSIDE-DOWN on the cage bars
And sleeps all day in her nest.
I clean her cage out every WEEK
She stuffs her food up her TUBE for storage
And has to dig THROUGH it to get past her tube!
In dedication to my REAL hamster called ACORN
One
Thing Happy by Gretchen Bishop
(aged 10)
Over
the summer life has been bumpy
And one thing really has made life easier
Dad took trust
And bought me a puppy
He helps me through life
This little guy
When I have to cope
When ever I cry
And that happens alot
He always by my side
Wolf
by Amy Townshend
I
sit and I watch
With intensity
He is a part of me
I look to the ledge
And there he stands
Proud and tall
And very grand
His eyes gleaming in the night
The moon shining oh so bright
He raises his head
And lets out a howl
He is the lone wolf
A
Dragon For A Pet by Ruth Britton (aged 10)
I saw a flash
of red
Hiding
in the flower bed
There it is again - I wonder what it could be?
I ran over to it and it came to see me
"Wow, a friendly dragon," said I,
"But mum won't let me keep you, I'll have to lie."
I went indoors
and saw MUM!
"What have you been up to?"
"Nothing mum, but I have to hurry -
I really need the loo."
I ran to my room to look for a lair
for my dragon without a care.
He found a cage,
a comfy place,
he settled down and covered his face.
So I have a dragon as a pet,
I just hope him and mum haven't met.
My
Rabbit by Kelsey Kenyon (when
she was 11)
My Rabbit lives
in the hay,
He comes out when he wants to play,
Every time and every day.
In the summer
he goes in the run,
To run around,
And have some fun.
In his hutch
he hops around,
As well as bouncing round and round.
At night time he snuggles down,
In a bed that he has found.
He eats fruit,
salad and lots of veg,
To fill him up for the day ahead.
He's a big, bouncy, beautiful bunny.
Grey and white and very funny
I like my rabbit
I really do,
I hope you like my poem too.
Your
New Pet by Jennifer Wayne (aged
8)
Here is your pet,
Now you are set.
But before you go home and play,
There is something I must say.
1. You must play with him every day.
2. Do not feed him any hay.
3. Give him lots of care.
4. Don't forget to trim his hair!
5. Always take him for a run
6. Oh, yeah! Have fun! :-)
(P.S. This poem does not work for horses.)

Foals are beautiful
Lovely indeed
They take your breath

To the wonderful place
That they like to call home
There are mares
And stallions
It's a beautiful sight
To the eyes of the foal
It's a family
they frolic around
Like they always should do
It's a beautiful sight

So now we've seen this gorgeous place
We should go home

Every walk
Is like a celebration.

For food which he is always
Ravening.

We have had him since he had
Puppy ears.
I have a dog
Now he is sleeping
Chasing rabbits
He is dreaming.
City
Cat by Alex Leung (aged 7)
City night
Shiny lights
Skinny small slimy wild cat
Tiptoes through the dark alley ways
Glowing glittering gleaming eyes
Smells danger on the dark roads
Battles her enemies
Slides into dimness
Out of sight out of danger
Running as fast as a wild lion
Hiding her scars under her ginger skin
Treads home silently
Baby by Kate Savin (aged 12)
Every morning when I woke up,
Baby was there.
Every time when I wanted a hug,
Baby was there.
Every night when I fell into sleep,
Baby was there.
Every time when I wanted peace,
Baby was there.
But now the morning is lonely,
My tears are left as scars.
The dreams I have, they scare me,
The peace is locked behind bars.
You may think she was just a cat,
That I had no reason to mourn.
But Baby, she was more than that!
My best friend, a beautiful dawn.
Ponies by Claudia (aged 8)
Prancing happily like
a waterfall flying across rocks.
Galloping like music flowing up your ears.
Nibbling on grass like a angel singing.
Their silk fur being touched by small soft hands.
Shining big eyes like the bright sun.
Long skinny legs making them look tall and beautiful
Thinking what a horrible thing the bit is.

I am a clever owl with big eyes and little toes
I am sensible quiet and calm
Intelligent and full of wisdom
People might think I am dopey and dumb

I will fly into their world
I will show them how enlightened I am

Daisy's scared of coming out of her house
She thinks that everyone's ready to pounce
Sophie the scorpion comes around as quiet as a mouse's sound.
You should see her evil glare - it's like a tiger and a bear.
Sophie said, Step right up
Daisy had great good luck
Sinead the snake saved the day
and chased Sophie a long, long way.
Daisy thought she was swimming in a pond
but really she was running all along
All the animals gathered round
They were delighted and very proud.

he seemed quite tender
and like he cared
but when I got closer
I felt really scared.
I saw a giraffe
it seemed quite small
but when I got nearer it looked really tall
I saw a monkey
swinging from tree to tree
eating bananas
that's all I could see
And then I saw a dolphin
in a swimming pool
it jumped through a hoop
and it looked very cool
I then saw hippo
looking tired
but the funny thing was
it didn't go to sleep though!

Puzzle
the Patchy Pony by Alice Hoy
(aged 7)
Puzzle is a patchy pony
Who is very fluffy and cute,
She watches me at my window,
Whenever I play the flute!
Puzzle is a greedy pony
With a bit of cheek,
And whenever I leave the feed room door open,
She always takes a peek!
Puzzle is a lazy pony,
Who hardly ever budges
And whenever I take her to a show
She always licks the judges!
Puzzle is the perfect pony
In every sort of way,
That's the reason why I brought her,
Because she always makes my day!
The Snake by Jenna Engelhart
Sleek and slithery, lithe
and long,
He slowly sings a hissing song
Wicked, cunning are his eyes
Within, a lurking hate there lies.
Hypnotizing when in motion,
Rippling like waves in an ocean
Every tiny patterned scale
Shinning like a soldier's mail.
He flows like water from a ledge
He pours himself over the edge
All his ancient, evil race
Possess that lovely, liquid grace.
He slithers forward, moving fast,
Weaving onward through the grass.
Gone. Even a windy gust
Erases his track through the dust.

The
Stallion by Cethin Ravenhill
(aged 11)
Canter, canter, off we
run,
Out of the shadows and into the sun.
Together we go across the down;
'clip clop' we heard a sound,
The herd came down across the mound,
We caught up behind on the hardened ground.
Across the flats and
up the dunes,
Listening to our rhythmic tunes,
Arising from our galloping feet -
The sun baked floor our fast hooves beat,
We charged up towards the shining star,
We galloped together to a pasture, afar,
We raced away to the green, green grass,
Over mountains and through
a pass.
We were going far, far away from home,
till we stopped at a hill carved out of stone,
a thing came out, we ran away
Never coming back towards that way!
The
Centipede by Rhea Kuruvilla
(aged 11)
There was a cute little
girl
Who had a centipede as a pet,
She was the luckiest in the world,
And it obeyed whatever she said!
So one day she sent him
to buy a snack,
He left. One hour passed... two hours... three hours,
The little centipede never came back,
When she opened the door, he wasn't far.
"Hey!" she
shouted, "what are you doing here?
I thought I sent you out to buy food!"
The centipede exclaimed, "Hold on, man!
I'm going, but first, I need to wear my shoes!"
Tiger
Cubs by S. Anuradha (aged 8)
If you can hear little
roars,
If you are in the forest and something is moving in the shrubs,
Then sure enough they are tiger cubs
Maybe their mother is just behind the bush
So don't go too near
Don't make any sound, maybe it will hear
You can fight with her if you think you are brave
But afterwards don't ask me to help you digging your grave.

A flick of his tail shows that he is about to pounce his prey.
In a blink of an eye, he is no longer in sight.
He wedges himself into a box hoping to be unseen.
He waits quietly until someone happens to walk by then he leaps
into the air digging his claws into his victim.
He then scurries off into the night.
He will be invisible until the daylight arrives.
Night,
Night by Thomas Lock
Night, night
sleep tight
don't let the bed bugs bite.
If they do
get a shoe
and whack those nasty bugs in two

Milady
& The Jester by Robyn Wolgemuth
(aged 8)
My cat is queen of the
magnificent kitchen.
She hisses threats at the jester kitten!
But when we pet her she purrs like thunder.
She eats her jester's food!
(The kitten is wasted from hunger.)
When the jester's bad she's banished to the dungeon,
Where the spiders crawl over her and centipedes make her luncheon!
A
Riddle Poem by Robyn Wolgemuth
(aged 8)
I am fast.
I dart all around.
I slink in the shadows without a sound.
My beautiful coat hides me from danger.
Sometimes I think I am Kitchen Ranger!
I stay at home and never know why.
I play with toys and then they all pet me!
And I go to sleep with one paw on my knee!
Have you guessed what kind of cute pretty animal I am?
I
am a kitten!
Hiss
by Martin (aged 10)
It slithers secretly,
secretly on the jungle bed,
sharply looking around, just waiting to be fed.
It attacks violently over here and there,
It hisses so badly it really doesn't need to care.
Its scaly skin,
so moist and lively,
it sheds its scales,
very untidy.
It feels so lonely but
strong,
it hisses an ear-breaking song.
It looks for a mate,
but bites other animals it hates.
The
Cat by S.Anuradha (aged 8)
She is very pretty.
She is very nice.
She is very tricky.
She likes little mice.
She has a pink nose and eyes so green.
She is so proud of herself as if she's a queen.
She has a big tail and black little whiskers.
She has two ears to hear all whispers.
She sits on the mat and catches every rat.
She is nothing else but a fine grey cat .
Guess
Who We Are by Daisy Thorpe (aged
10)
Walking very amusing,
Slipping on the ice.
Very funny and friendly,
Enjoying every minute of life.
Working together always,
Helping all the time.
Always in a huddle,
Their coats have a lovely shine.
Little chicks furry,
Staying with their mums.
Very cute and cuddly,
Have to leave when the time comes.
They are very lovely creatures,
Can you guess what they are?
If you cannot
You must be from a different planet afar.
A
Pet Bee by Katie Rubbe (aged
11)
If I could have a pet
I wonder what it'd be
Maybe a dinosaur
Or a monkey
with a pet bumble bee
Or maybe a great rhino
With the strength times three
I wonder what it'd be
I guess I'll settle for a bee
So it can buzz right after me!!
My
Dog by Katie Rubbe (aged 11)
My dog was great.
He barked
And he smiled.
He'd give you wet licks
Every once and in a while
I wish he were here
But he's gone now.
It was his time to be
Gone with the clouds.
I wish he were here
So I could see him smile.
I wouldn't care.
Even if it was only for a while.
Because I would know
I got to see him smile
Got to feel his fur
And say goodbye
When he would have to go again
So I would no longer feel a harsh pain
And his pain would end
Me
And My Monkey by Zoe Collins
(aged 12)

I take him for walks.
we have so much fun,

our lives are the same.
me and my monkey,

we have so much fun.
My
Love for Tadpoles by Taylor
McWilliams
the way a tadpole looks when it first comes out of its egg
it is just sitting, breathing
unlike frogs, tadpoles breath through gills instead of lungs
frogs are croaking, loudly
you can see a tadpoles organs through its clear body
you see its heart just pumping, resting
frog's skin is very much different then a tadpoles
it's colourful, moist
Life
of a Ruling Lion by Lee Ellen
Searcy (aged 10)
As the lion sits in the
late afternoon
he watches as the
sun sinks away
He has pride in his heart
knowing he is calm,
not like other lions.
This is a very wise.
He sits gracefully
thinking,
but no one knows
what he is thinking.
As he glares at the sun
with his big green eyes
the color of emerald,
it is so tranquil.
I believe he likes it.
This is the life of a ruling king
The
Kingdom by Shelby Watts (aged 10)
So peaceful, so tranquil,
so very calm.
The two majesties
really belong there.
The sun shines so brightly.
The lion just stares.
Looking over his kingdom,
Not without a care.
The lion is so dark.
The Sun is so bright.
But the sun will soon fade away,
Into night.
The lion's face is calm,
looking over the hills.
His back stands tall.
His body is so still.
Does he have power?
Is he a great king?
Will everyone be safe?
Will he rule gracefully?
While watching his kingdom,
the lion has pride.
While running his country,
peace is on his side.
Will he travel to distant
places
as the sun fades into night
or look out for his kingdom?
Maybe he might.
The
Lion and the Sun by Kayla Reed
The lion so straight
Just like a slate.
The lion's fur so brown
Just like the ground.
The sun so bright
Just like the day sky.
The lion so powerful
He knows he is the king.
Thinking about his power
And thinking about the sun's power.
His kingdom below him
And the sun above him.
My
Dog Duke by Kenneth Jenks (aged
11)
It was a tragic day
My dog Duke had
Died
My dad, I, and cousin
Cried all day
Because Duke was a great dog.
It took us
A couple of years
To get over Duke.
But when we did
Everything went back
To normal
Except our hearts where still broken.

What
Am I? by Kassandra Crum (aged
12)
I was treated unfairly
for now I'm extinct,
Humans hunted me for my unique skin,
I had a powerful jaw that was large enough for 46 sharp teeth,
I had 15 to 20 dark stripes along my back
from my shoulders to the tip of my tail,
I was a creature of the night,
For I came out to play under the dark moonlit sky,
My enemy, the dingo, drove my family and I from our Australian home
To the coast and plains of Tasmania,
The last of my kind died in captivity on September 7th, 1936,
I am a beast from over 3,000 years ago,
Scientists plan to one day clone me
So I can once again roam the plains of Australia.
My
Cat Macy by Dan Huza (aged 11)
My cat Macy
is bothersome,
she always wants
some attention.
When I'm playing my
video games
she'll jump in front of
the TV
When I'm on my iPod
she'll rub my legs,
she'll run in the kitchen
when I make myself pancakes.
But even though she wants
some attention,
she'll always be my
little kitty.

We're going to the zoo,
I'll go with you,
There's a rhino in a cage,
Don't send him into a rage,
Look there's a cheetah,
Don't race him, he's a beater,
The seals always eat their meals,
Look! There's a croc,
Watch out! He'll give you a knock,
Wow there's a shark,
Be careful, she'll eat more than a lark.

September
16th by Kassandra Crum (aged 12)
A day when I go to greet
my best friend,
Instead of seeing her optimistic and blissful,
I find her fearful and in pain,
In terror, I instantly rushed her to my father,
Once I grabbed her, she was cold to the touch,
She felt like there was little life left in her,
My father told me that there was nothing we could do,
Tears rush down my face as I held her,
As she lay in my hands, each second she was another step closer
to death,
She gasped for air with all the energy left inside her,
All I can see in my head are the memories that I got to share with
her,
Unfortunately, I had to leave her behind as I went to school,
All day I prayed and hoped,
That a miracle would overcome her,
Once I got home, she had already past away,
There I stood lonely and hopeless,
R.I.P. Smokey.

The climax is when I open my mouth!
Tiger's
Luck by Tasha (aged 12)
Nose flares.
Eyes stare.
Ears flicker.
He turns his head.
Crouched down low
Out of sight.
Suddenly...
Something stripy starts to fly.
Though the air.
Ruffling his hair.
Everyone turns and sees him fly.
Heart beating.
What a fright.
Everyone runs from the sight.
Suddenly he lands and hits the ground.
Lies alone without a sound...
The
Elephant by Kylee Ramsay (aged
11)
Purest freshness of all eyes,
Shining glimmer ever wise,
What is in that giant's mind?
Something we may never find.
Is it hatred of all man?
If it is I'll understand.
Skin so thick and full of joy.
But then it's ruined like a toy.
Poachers shoot and hunt them dead,
This is true, I'm not misled.
Of all our sports, this is so mean,
To some of us, no point is seen.
The greyness of this creatures skin,
If ruined, it is mankind's sin.
Giant ears so great and full of life,
All this ruined as painful as a knife.
Fly
by Tasha (aged 12)
Six visions.
Really hard to make a decision.
Which way to go?
What time to fly?
Off he goes.
Buzzing through the sky.
Lands on a piece of cake.
Eating sounds he starts to make.
Then off he goes.
Through the air.
Looking for a sandwich or a beer.
Suddenly a frog spots this fly.
Tongue flashes.
Fly falls down just like ashes.
Short life this fly lived.
But now its time...
for the next fly generation.
The
Deer by Bob (aged 11)
When I was hiking I saw
a deer.
I heard the leaves crunching and knew he was near.
His stomach was white and his antlers were great.
I counted his points and there were eight.
I snapped a picture of his big head.
I watched him walk off to find his bed.
What
Am I? by Olivia Johnson (aged
8)
I am long and slimy,
I can be brown or pink,
You can't tell which end of me is which,
I am loved by most gardeners,
People say I can be deadly if eaten
What am I?
Blind
Dog by Kylee Ramsay (aged 11)
You may fall for my beauty
and might
However my weakness is surely my sight.
I might be playful during the day
However at night I can only lay.
Because you aren't there to lead me around
I will always sadly fall to the ground,
Because of my weakness I get made fun of and teased,
Then my heart stops as if I had sneezed.
Although I'm unlucky I have to go on
Even if others think I'm no fun.
Goats
by Kayla (aged 12)
Have you ever see a goat who thinks he's a dog?
Well at least it's better than him thinking he's a hog
I have a goat named Jerry and man is he hairy
He knows how to open the gate
Man, that is something that I hate
He really likes dog food
until he is in a bad mood
Then he wants goat food
He likes to run and play
All throughout the day
And he jumps in the air like he just don't care
And stands up to trees and begs for more leaves!
Animals
by Samy (aged 9)
TEN tiny
goldfish swimming in a tank,
NINE tidgey spiders climbing up my leg,
EIGHT tiny caterpillars on leaves,
SEVEN little mice hurrying along the carpet,
SIX black cats chasing the mice,
FIVE medium dogs chasing the cats,
FOUR foxes trying to eat me,
THREE crocodiles trying not to laugh,
TWO elephants stomping around
And ONE guess what?
A
Homeless Cat by Kylee Ramsay (aged 11)
Yes I might purr with the sound of affection,
Yet deep inside I have fears of rejection,
My paws are rough with flee bites, dirt,
I may seem happy but deep down I'm hurt.
I might have manners and be much a friend,
Yet my so-called owner is not round the bend,
I might have a collar that reads my name Sue,
But I don't have anyone except for you.
You are not my owner only a mate,
Maybe this horror was to be my fate,
My once orange bowl that I ate from before,
Is now feeding another cat's famished jaw.
I sleep on stones so sharp and small,
Under the tree that stands so tall,
I received from my owner nothing but neglect,
Leaving that owner was not a regret.
The Life of a Butterfly by Rhea
Kuruvilla (aged 10)
This is not the way it
should be,
Butterflies are supposed to be free,
Trapped in a tiny jar,
Instead of sitting on a pretty flower.
Torn wings, a miserable
face,
Oh, life! What a disgrace!
Now it cannot show-off its colorful wings,
Like the other beautiful butterflies in Spring.
It has been so many days,
From when it has been happy and gay,
In the jar, it sadly lies,
Then fades away...and dies.
To
My Baby by Devon Conrad (aged 12)
Dedicated to my dog Icky Licky.
"How much is that baby in the window?
The one with the waggly tail
How much is that baby in the window?"
She's MINE, back off, she's not for sale!
The
Hedgehog by Elizabeth Arscott
(aged 8)
During the day I sleep
sound and still,
Then when I wake up my tummy I fill!
I search in the compost, I munch on the veg.
And then I squeeze through the hole in the hedge.
The owls in the bushes hoot till they fall,
The cats in the alley jump over the wall.
But I just keep on going, I ignore all the sounds,
I take no notice of Mrs Holly's old hounds,
At last I will reach my brother Bob's house
And then I will talk to his friend Little Mouse.
After one hour I will leave for my home,
Because all of the foxes have started to roam!
So off at a trot I go back to my bed...

He shows some innocence in his eyes.
Munching down on a carrot twice his size.

Riding on my lovely horse,
It's a dream come true,
Riding on my lovely horse,

You kick him on, he walks along,
You tap him with the whip,
And he starts trotting
When you're trotting,
You're bobbing up and down,
He breaks into a canter,
You feel like you're flying,
You can't remember anything,
Because you love it so much.

Once I was walking by

and I saw lots of dogs...
Fierce dogs, gentle dogs,
Happy dogs, sad dogs,
Very, very bad dogs,
Clever dogs, stupid dogs,
Boring dogs, fun dogs,
Chewing lots of gum dogs,
Loud dogs, quiet dogs,
Grey dogs, red dogs,
Sleeping in their bed dogs,
Big dogs, small dogs,
Heavy dogs, light dogs,
Very...

Dolphins
of the World by Meric O. (aged

A dolphin moving swiftly in the ocean,
Yes that's the animal I have chosen,
I love the way it does flips in the air,
Natural as sitting in a chair,
It's not just their beauty it's their luck too,
The luck to move freely in the ocean,
The luck to see the beauty of the ocean,
And the luck just be in the ocean,
To be loved by the world, the water,
They have the biggest heart,
They have the nature,
They are the nature,
They are the beauty of the ocean,
The beauty in our eyes,
The beauty of the world,
Like a luck charm!

Chasing after a fat squirrel
My Mom said, Go get her

So as I stopped and choked
I felt a hard tug
It was my brother saying it wasn't our dog

Beady eyes
Pointy beak

In your crowds
Wings so large
Colourful and all

Claws so sharp
Sharp as knives
If you hurt him
You risk your life

That he could be
Good company
Panther,

Went to a courtroom,
Sentenced to a lifetime in a cage,
Nothing to say,
Filled with rage.
Now in the cage,

After a day,
Nothing's changed,
Why would it?
Everyday is the same

In a cage, filled with rage.
The
Barn Owl by Tessa (aged 12)
Barn owl is a snow white
fur ball
sleeping all through the day,
the sun sets and the sky turns black
and the barn owl is on its way
It opens its eyes and
they shine
in the darkness like stars,
it stretches its white wings out
and takes off out of the window bars
It swoops out into the
glittering
starry night sky
and glides round the country side
spotting mice by flying high
It spots a nice juicy
mouse and
with its cunning ears it spots another
It flies down and catches its feast
The barn owl is a definite mouse eating lover
Then suddenly the owl
swallows and turns
There is light, the sun is rising towards the west
so the barn takes flight and
lands in the barn in and sits back in its nest
The owl gets comfy and
fluffs up
like a snow ball in its bed
It rests and closes its diamond eyes
and sleeps ready for the night ahead
Barn
Owl by Sarah-Jayne Charlesworth
(aged 12)
As he swoops down,
And the air brushes through his wings,
His bright beady eyes lighten up the night,
He's like a king or queen.
He's like a snowball falling through the sky,
And all you can see is his beady eyes.
He swoops for his prey,
And lands on the ground,
No one knows what he has found.
He's like a snowball falling through the sky,
And all you can see is his beady eyes.
It could be a bird,
It could be a rat,
It could be something under a hat.
No one knows what he has found,
And now he leaves his treacherous ground.
Ouch! by Bethany Potts (aged 13)
Sailing along in a submarine,
under the sea we are,
better than travelling by plane,
better than by car.
Watching all the fish go by,
some I say hello to ,
others just plain hi,
then I see a piranha
I feel excitement tingling in my toes,
I open the hatch and let it in,
it swims forward and bites off my nose!
Fish
by Matthew Ashpole (aged 10)
I am a fish,
People want to eat me in a dish
I have fins to help me swim
People want to kill me limb from limb,
I have little bones
Sometimes I scratch my back along stones
I swim peacefully across the sea
I don't want to be anyone's tea!
My
Molly Girl, Why Did You Have to Go? by
Kiy Black
In memory of my dog, Molly
You were always there
when I needed a friend
You were always there to keep me warm in the cold
You were always there to wipe my tears away
You were always there when the sun had gone
You always stayed at my side
You always kept me warm when the weather was cold
You always put a smile on my face
You always gave light when there was no light
It's too lonely here
Why did the heavens have to take you?
I miss you too much
Now that you've left
I cry all the time when I think about you
My Molly girl, why did you have to go?
The
Pop Star Cat by Camille Tooze
and Form 4 (aged 9)
With dainty white tap shoes
And perfectly-applied black eyeliner
Behind her Gucci shades,
She smoothes her starched, lace bib
And begins her day.
In her baggy, soft, tracksuit bottoms
She spends the morning watching 'Top Cat'
After proudly pacing the cat-walk
That is the mossy, garden wall.
Her frantic, fluffy banner
Heralds the sound of the
Creaking, Whiskas-holding cupboard door.
Lazing on a sunny, silk cushion
She purrs contentedly, as she washes her best velvet suit.
Night-time! Through cat-flap!
And quickly away to meet friends
Beside the 'Overflowing Bin Restaurant'.
A slap-up self-service feast of chicken bones and fish,
Completes her Hello-style schedule.

My

I didn't know

Then,

She went in the cupboard

She was fat when she went in,
but she came out -

I had a peep.
Know what I saw?

all in a heap
1-2-3-4.

Singing
Swallowtail by J. C. Szwarc
My sister Sally had a snake
Its color was silver and sienna.
My sister, Sally called her snake Sally,
because she liked it, too.
The snake would hiss at her and say
Silly Sally, Silly Sally.
One day her friend bought her a Siamese fish,
But the snake slithered to its tank and
Slurped it.
When Sally saw the snake slurping the Siamese fish
She shrieked and squealed.
Now Sally's only pet is a singing Swallowtail...
Cats
by Olivia Griffiths (aged 8)
Cats just can't control
Their purr, their grrrrrr
Their proud stroll
Their paws are itchy
And their fur is too
They'd sleep in a cardboard box or shoe
Close your eyes
And imagine a cat
In your cupboard
With your frock and hat
Some have white fur
Some have brown
Some are excited
And some just lie down.
Some cats in town
Have scratched in bins
They are covered in fleas
And smelly bean tins
Some cats look evil
With bright green eyes
Some are like mine
And have nine lives
But if they run out
Don't be upset
Because one of these days
You'll get a new pet!
My New Kitten by Hannah Voss
Star-struck as she looked at the gift of Heaven before her,
Joy roared through her heart like a thunderstorm,
Small hands stroking the warm fur
Soft like a wool blanket
Or down feathers laid down, laid down,
She looked into his marble eyes,
How he mews, purrs, meows, and whimpers,
Peering at him, happy like a kid on Christmas Day,
He's falling asleep, comfort him, comfort him,
Quietly, quietly, quietly, quietly now!
The
Raccoon's Mask by Hannah Voss
Late one afternoon in
Timberwood's Forest
Right before the blazing sun had gone to sleep
A small raccoon had gotten lost from his mother.
As it was nervously searching for her
He came upon a vicious bear twice as large as an elephant.
The raccoon was terrified
Until out of nowhere a beautiful angel appeared
However, she simply gave the raccoon
A handful of soot and left.
The confused raccoon immediately started running
But to his dismay he fell upon a log.
The soot from his hands powdered upon his face.
The soot blended in with the environment
So the raccoon could not be seen
The baby raccoon safely returned to its mother
And ever since this incident raccoons have always
Been born with a black "mask" on their face.
Horse
by Eleanor Reader (aged 12)
The horse runs free in
the wind
Her silken mane flowing
Going nowhere
Feeling the warm breeze rush through her
T-lot! T-lot, t-lot.
Feeling the adventurous adrenaline flood her
A feeling of total freedom.
Bound by rules none, she gallops
Gallops, gallops into space.
Limits
by Olivia (aged 11)
The wind whipping my
mane
The earth at my feet,
The crunch of golden grain
And the young lamb's bleat.
The rush of choice
The taste of speed,
My mother's voice
To forever heed.
I live in my limits
And you live in yours,
In two different worlds
Each without flaws.
Lion
Dreams by Abigail Ford (aged 8)
On the coldest nights,
In the coldest place,
In the coldest part world,
In the north south east on the coast of the west
There is a jungle to be said
On that very time
In that very place
All the creatures come out to play
They have fun and games
But one animal does not have fun and games
The animal that prowls about
The lion
It dreams of doing this
It wants to do this
But it cannot
It cannot dance
But one day
It meets another lion
That teaches it how to dance to dance
Teaches it how to dance
So next year it can dance away
The
Cat Lovers' Poem by Sara Ness
(aged 13)
When the world was new
And the lava was hot
And good was good
And bad was not
God created the earth
And all things thereon
The seas, and the land
And the humans, his pawn.
He created the fish
And the birds and the sky
And as the seven days passed on by
He created the greatest thing of all -
The cat, from whom all the greatest pets call.
When he was done, he was tired and sore
He'd done quite a lot, but he still needed more.
So as the very last thing, before he went to bed,
He created the dog, and laid down his head.
But the dog was unfinished, so docile and tame -
For God was quite tired. He'd forgotten the brain.
Scorpion
by James Burgin (aged 10)
The scorpion is a crane,
Arching its long spiked tail,
Lunging at prey and glaring with its large glass eyes,
It moves along slowly on its many legs,
Scuttling in the hot sun it searches hungrily,
For food it can kill with its poisonous needle of fate,
So it can raise up like a long hook, as the prey lies still like
snow,
Opens its grill-like mouth, devouring menacingly.
After the day passes it gently settles down,
In the desert night it lies down restlessly,
Under a rock out of the moody desert wind,
It closes its beady eyes,
Just leaving a curtain of gold.
Hoof
Prints In The Sand by Robyn
Wiles (aged 12)
Ever since I can remember I have wanted to be free,
To roam the gorge and mountain tops with no-one chasing me,
I've longed to travel to a place that nature holds to heart,
and live a life of freedom that no-one can tear apart.
To run along the beaches and leave hoof prints in the sand,
and feel the water splashing, oh now wouldn't that be grand?
To munch the fresh new pasture as it breaks through natures soil,
Or even have my ears scratched by a friend forever loyal.
And now that time has
come at last,
When I can taste that wild free grass,
To run beside the great blue sea,
without a person riding me
I turn my head to look aback
and see my hoof prints smiling back
Who
Am I? by
Celina I. Lopez (aged 9)
There in the distance,
I see your gentle way.
I wonder what you do all day, run around and play?
Together we would have such fun,
Just you and me, in the sun.
I'd love to join you if I could,
I know I really, really would!
I must keep hoping for it to happen, that would be so cool.
But for now I must leave, and get myself to school!
(A
horse of course)

Caterpillar
by Samuel Mackereth (aged 10)
On a
leaf on a branch on a tree in a wood
A little egg hatched on the leaf where it stood
And out came a caterpillar round and fat
And began to feast on the leaf where it sat
It finished that leaf and began on another
Without ever seeing its father or mother
Then on that leaf on that branch on that tree in that wood
It became a pupa on that leaf where it stood
Then in that case on that leaf on that branch on that tree
A strange thing happened that no-one could see
That little caterpillar fat and green
Became the brightest butterfly ever seen.
My
Dog by Kristin Y. (aged 11)
My dog ran into a wall,
We think
Her face is flat. She's kinda fat
And no one can see her nose
Her name is Chloe
She's the runt
But the cutest of all
Cause she's My dog...
The one that ran into a wall.
Rats
by Brooke Freeman (aged 11)
They slip through cracks
And they slide through holes
Across the floor they scamper.
Their noses pick up delicious smells,
Their paws are sleek and quick.
When they here footsteps, they scatter.
Amazing sense of smell, hearing and speed.
They are household pests,
Almost as horrible as all of the rest.
Some are small and some are big,
The size usually matters.
My
Insect Zoo by Bethany Pickering
(aged 8)
In my insect zoo there
are bugs of many kinds
You will have to look very carefully because some are hard to find
Centipedes have lots of legs
And there are lots of wiggly worms
Please don't put them near your mouth because they are full of germs.
In my insect zoo there
are bugs of many sorts
Slugs and snails are very slow and can't take part in sports
Butterflies are friendly
You can chase them round in rings
But please don't chase the bees and wasps or you may get some stings.
In my insect zoo there
are bugs of many shapes
Spiders are very fast and weave there webs round gates
Ants are very strong
They can lift ten times there weight
But be careful with your picnic or they will nick your plate.
Butterflies
Hatched
by Michael Lessard (aged 9)
When it's hanging from a branch
It's in the curled chrysalis.
A week of darkness is present.
When it emerges from the cover
It is like the sun rising.
It comes out. The sun bursts.
The butterfly is hatched.

Strawberries
by Daniel Kemp (aged 13)
You old mongrel, Paws
touched me in the heart
Now your eyes are always looking over me
I'm thinking about you
I loved the way you looked happy when we played
You died on your tenth birthday and missed your eleventh
I have still got your
lead in my room
I've looked after it for you.
If I could turn back time I would
You always smelt of strawberries
Cats
and Dogs by Tracy Brinks (Aged
13)
The felines and the canines
they should have been made friends.
The cats were given nine lives,
the dogs were given friends.
Why do they hate each other so?
To chase the other up a tree.
The cats use claws to make their point
but the dogs...
use boys and girls, their best friends.
