THE WINNERS

School Poem by Mark Johnson (aged 8)

The bell rings and in we go
Rushing, pushing the teacher says No
Sums, history, reading and French
Lunchtime comes and we sit on a bench

Playtime is fun
We talk, skip and run
The teachers have a break
Drinking coffee and eating cake

In the afternoon Mrs Ramsay comes in
And teaches us how to sing.
Mrs Ramsay plays her guitar
She tunes it first singing La la la!

It's three o'clock, we go home on the bus
We are in a rush, oh what a fuss.
The teachers work hard all day long
When it's their home time they sing a happy song

Playa Rap by Matthew Trammell (aged 9)

We're cool 4th graders at Playa del Rey.
We like to play and have a great day!

We have the best teachers in the west.
And now we're learning about quest.

We have unique teachers in our school.
They are really neat and like to rule.

And we like to say, hey hey hey!
Let's Go Playa Del Rey!

School by Andrew McCarthur (aged 10)

in school I play football
and we have assemblies in the hall
we have an ICT suite
and when we are good we get a treat

we go swimming
and all the other teachers are teaching
and I play for the team
and the supporters are eating ice cream

we do math's every day
then go out for a play
Our teacher is Mrs Candy Floss
and when we argue in football the is total chaos.

Mystery Staff Room by Mikey. P. Teal (aged 11)

I wonder what's in the staff room,
I guess it's bigger than it looks,
Maybe they've got a king-size fridge
And a wall filled with books!

Maybe it's like a café,
Or it could be a gym.
They could have a dozen servants
Called either John, Harry or Tim.

Smoothie maker maybe?
Definitely, seats that are really cosy.
Has the fund-raising money
Bought the teachers a pool and Jacuzzi?

Could there be bar football
Or snooker table.
They might only have satellite T.V.
Certainly, no cable!

Once I took a peek,
But there was nothing exciting to see.
Disappointed, I turned, then heard a pinball machine.
So, I wonder, can it be?

A World Without Teachers by Kirsty Lane (aged 15)

A world without teachers
Wouldn't it be great !
No one to tell us off
Or keep us in late.

No lessons, no books
No work, no school
Not even detentions
Wouldn't that be cool !

No friends to see
No gossip too
How would we live?
What would we do?

Maybe we do need teachers
To work at a school
But a world without teachers
Would definitely be cool !

RUNNERS UP

No prizes - but a huge Well Done!!!

Teachers by Jasmine Bown (aged 10)

It's the end of term,
The teacher's favourite time of year
They're finally rid of children!
It's time to shout & cheer!

They're taking out their sunhats
They're heading to the sea
Those good-for-nothing teachers,
Are rid of you & me!

But now it's time to go home,
It's time to end the fun.
the teachers are terribly depressed,
'cos now September's come!

Hurricane Katrina Truck by Angela McCutcheon (aged 10)

When Hurricane Katrina hit,
my teacher had an idea,
"Let's paint a bus for the
Hurricane Katrina victims!"
So my class painted the
truck with our hands and prints.
Then a few days later people
with donations filled up the truck.
Then my teacher and her husband
drove the truck to downtown.
The donations made the hurricane victims
feel so much better!

School by Luke Alan Latchford (aged 10)

School is great
you can't be late
by five to nine
though the school gate

Maths and English
science too
What is your favourite subject?
it's up to you.

High fives, football
so much sport to do
singing and dancing
all the way through.

Gary And Jak are my best friends
I'm with them until the day ends
We are all here to learn
but football is all I yearn.

School dinners are so nice
but the best thing about them is
the curry and rice.

Mrs Nosedale is the best
caring and sharing
teacher in our school
Sometimes she makes us laugh
Sometimes she acts like a fool.

Our school is the best
funnier happier better
than all the rest.

School by Elizabeth Jenkins (aged 10)

School is good,
school is great,
we play games,
and we have fun.

Teachers help us learn,
and they make us do work,
Mrs Poss is my teacher,
and she can be funny.

Mrs Madd is my head teacher,
she is kind and helpful,
she does hard work,
every day and every minute.

We play football,
kicking and scoring goals,
we play Netball,
throwing and scoring.

We do P.E,
in the swimming baths,
kicking and splashing,
all day long.

Our Teachers by Jak Barnes (aged 10)

Mrs Paywire is funny
and carries it too far
and goes haywire.
Mrs Pink is a nice
Teacher and if you get something right
she gives you a wink.
Mrs Star is a show off
because she's got a new car.
Miss Lunner is a good sport's women
because she's a real
good runner

The Party by Celina Macdonald (aged 13)

I had a birthday party,
And it was really fun.
I got cake and confetti,
And then out came the sun.
Party poppers and balloons,
The best bit's far from lame:
I invited all my school friends,
And luckily none of them came.

A Cold and Lonely Life by Hanna Busse (aged 12)

I trudge to the bus stop
In the glow of the street lights.
My eyes are craving for a brightness
That they cannot see.
"The bus is coming!"
You can tell only by the
Glow of the headlights,
Flying down the road.
Once you climb on,
Even the first rays of
Sunlight on the horizon
Are blocked from view.
You just sit,
And wait,
In the dark,
And cold,
To go to school,
And start another
Lonely day.

School is Cool by Matt Vaugh (aged 11)

School is wacky
Classes are tacky
Homework is inescapable
Organization is impossible
Outside time is wonderful
Learning is beautiful

I like school
School is cool

Casual Friday
Out of style Tuesday
Overdressed Monday
Let's cheer, hip hip hooray!

ALP (Accelerated Learning) Teacher
by Kimberly Allison (aged 11)

They say she has a hidden lair
And spiders and buds crawling in her hair
She'll walk past you and you'll get a tingle
in your spine.
and she'll give you detention if your
not in class on time.
They say she smells like rotten cheese
and a wet dog that has a lot of fleas.
They say her voice sounds like nails
on a chalkboard
and she calls herself the homework lord.
There's the bell I must go
to the classroom from down
below
I open the door and what
do I see
a smile on a teacher that
looks nice to me
I think I'll like ALP.

We had a huge entry to this competition. I'm sorry we can't show you everyone's poems - but here are the best of the rest. Thank you and well done to everyone who entered.

Education by Kirsty Lane (aged 15)

Education is like moving house,
You move and upgrade
The same as progressing
Or you stay where you are,
And improve by making little changes.
Decorating or learning.
If you decide to move country
You take a big leap and change.
Moving up, improving, learning more
All the time you change and improve.
Education is like moving house.

How I Like School by Max Piggott (aged 10)

My teacher is loony bonkers gone mad
I do not know her real name but it might be
Loony lady bonkers women
She would say these names are not necessary
but who cares what she thinks?
She is a teacher and she is dead mean
And does not let us do anything.

The sports staff are ok but they're mad sometimes
Ok, most of the time
but the best teacher is Miss Small
She is very sporty with her
light pink trainers
She is the teacher
for years 3 and 4.

I hope the teachers at
high school are in the
right frame of mind because
I am running out of names

Other people think I am mad
but I think I like my teacher

School by Tom Cordell (aged 9)

Teachers, teachers everywhere,
You lose your P.E. kit they don't care.

My favourite game is scatter ball,
It doesn't matter if you're small or tall.

Netball is the game for girls,
With their long hair and their curls.

I like running on sports day,
Mums and dads sit on the hay.

A sleep in maths wide-awake for games,
I like running and so does James.

School Poem by Victoria Ellis (aged 8)

Teachers, Teachers everywhere
Its nearly Halloween and I don't care
Teachers in the corridor having fun more and more
Children, children what shall I do?
My brother Kieran has got the flu,
I've just done my spelling test,
I hope she thinks I've done my best,
Well good-bye for now and all the best
I'm off to have a big, big rest,
I hope we don't have another test.

Teachers by Ellie Smith (aged 7)

Teachers go to work in schools,
They teach us not to break the rules,
They tell us all we must play fair,
We are not allowed to kick or pull hair,
We read our books and sing our song,
We wait to go home-it takes to long,
Sometimes its fun, sometimes its not,
Have I completed my homework I forgot?
There are many teachers in my school,
Some are old and some are cool,
There's miss Kendrick and Mrs P.
They are both good at doing PE,
The end of the day is in our clutches,
When will Mrs L. return on her crutches?
She broke her foot whilst on a trip out,
We miss her dearly but crikey- she can shout!
I long for the time when my school days are done,
Only another 9 years left- oh what fun!

Dancing, Dancing by Arabella Ranby

Dancing, dancing what shall I do?
My normal dance teacher has the flu.

Dancing, dancing doing street
I'm always tapping to the beat.

Dancing, dancing playing a game
Everyone always says my name.

Dancing, dancing doing a role
But the dancing fire is out of coal.

Dancing, dancing doing slow
And my dance teacher is called Mrs Mo

Too Cool For School by Eleanor May Rodgers (aged 7)

too cool for school
too smart for art
we need to read
where's the paths to maths?

the same old games
we play in PE
why do we have to
go on the PC?

history is a mystery
we learn about mines in story time
the best feature is my teacher!
but still...
I'm too cool for school!

The Teacher's Lounge by Eugene Hayes (aged 9)

The teachers' lounge is a
mysterious place where
teachers drink hot chocolate
and figure out the case of
"Who stole the pencils?" and
"Where are my utensils?" or
"Does Ginny have a dog, or does
she own a hog?"

They solve the cases one by one
until their work is finally done.
They then put on their pajamas
and go to bed - "Wait!" A teacher
said. "Where's my pillow?"

School by Kurt Knapp (aged 10)

Lunch Detention by Cassandra Sunga (aged 10)

Everyday I go to lunch detention,
Because I cannot think.
Whenever my teacher puts an
Assignment in front of me,
I always blank out and freak.

In my mind I say,
What do I do?
What do I write?
What can I do,
To make this sentences sound right?
And then right before I know it,
I scream as loud as I can,
Then I dance around and scratch
My armpits,
While running around and saying "aw man!"

And that's where my teacher stops me,
And makes me look him in the eye,
Now off to lunch detention I go,
Before I make the 1st graders cry.

School by Lina He (aged 10)

School is great,
School is fun.
I try not to be late,
because then I have to run.
My teachers are the best,
except when we fail a test.
But don't be caught being bad,
or you will be very sad.

Are Teachers From Mars? by Austin Emmert (aged 11)

Are teachers from Mars?
Do they come from the stars?
Are they really from this planet?
Are they from a world called Zanet?
Is their skin a complex rubber?
Can there name be Gagoflubber!?
Do they sleep on walls not beds?
Do they have 2 or 3 heads?
Is the lounge a secret portal
that is not seen by any mortal.
Are there children in our lunch?
Does that give the extra crunch?
Are teachers from Mars,
Do they com from the stars?

Mrs. Crunch by Kenny Hayes (aged 11)

My teacher Mrs. Crunch,
She sings as a punishment,
She dances crazily,
And what she loves to do most
Is to munch on popcorn!

She eats if for breakfast,
She eats it for lunch,
And she gives it to the group to crunch.

She eats it at night,
And she even eats it during brunch
Oh! how great it is to have my teacher Mrs. Crunch.
