The Old Poems' Rest Home

Here's where all the old poems go when they get old. Enjoy them one last time.

Yellow by Martin Doherty (Year 4)

As yellow as a daffodil
Swaying side to side.
Yellow like the sun
Way up high in the sky.
As yellow as a t-shirt
That stands for Brazil.
Yellow as the icing
On a deluxe doughnut.
Yellow hair, yellow hair
Yellow hair with a yellow bobble.
I like the colour yellow,
Lots of things are YELLOW!

Class 5 Easter Poem by Anston Brook Primary

Butterflies were hatching in my stomach,
As the soft warm covers brushed against my skin,
Jumping out of bed,
I peeped around the crack in the door,
Making sure no-one was stirring.

Slowly sneaking silently down the stairs,
Creaking, freezing, frightened, parents toss and turn,
Floorboards twitching loudly,
In the lingering light of morning.

The delicious smell of chocolate eggs filled the air,
Cracking, crumbly chocolate eggs,
Waiting to be devoured and demolished,
Heavenly coca bean aroma climbing up my nostrils,
I can't wait to gobble them up.

As the chocolate slithers down into my tummy,
Sensations of water crashing against the rocks,
Rapidly invades my body,
A luscious awareness of milk chocolate slides into an unfamiliar place in my throat.

Multicoloured wrappers scattered on the cream carpet floor,
Red, Green, silver and gold,
Chocolate hand prints smeared on the remote control,
Satisfied, I dashed out the door,
Forgetting to get dressed into my Easter Sunday best.

Use books in school

Fury by Peter (aged 9)

My eyes burn like a really hot meteorite,
My head frizzles like someone over-frying an egg,
My feet feel like two big bonfires,
My legs turn bright red like a sun on a very hot day,
My eyes burn like two big hot tomatoes,
My fingers are like five burnt sausages,
I fall back thinking hard,
What was I cross about?

Our Five Senses by Smriti Ramakrishnan (aged 9)

I am now going to tell you about your senses five,
If you don't have any of them you are sure not to thrive.
The places where these senses are, are also used for
other things,
But anyway I'll tell you now about what each sense brings.

Eyes you use to look
At anything from a flower to a book.
Without them you couldn't see the sight
Of your garden on a moonlit night.

Ears you use to hear
Anything whether it be far or near.
Without them you couldn't hear the sweet voices of
your mother,
Your father, sister and brother.

Nose you use to smell,
Without it your food would taste and smell like hell.
You can also smell the scent
Of nature, and if you don't try you will repent.

Mouth you use to taste
Anything from bread to toothpaste.
Without it you couldn't savour
Food - even a feast would lose its flavour.

Hands you use to touch,
To fetch and bring and such.
Without them you couldn't feel
Anything, from clothes to orange peel.

So now you know why we need our senses five,
Yes, we need to see, hear, smell, taste, and touch to
survive.
If you have all your senses don't have greed,
But get out and about and do a good deed.

Springtime Poem by Sunetra and Catherine (aged 8)

White snowdrops
with beautiful tops

Delicate pots
in ten little lots

Pretty flowers
standing for hours

Golden honey
yummy in my tummy

The Seasons by Claudia James (aged 12)

Spring is coming,
Flowers and leaves,
Sprouting from nowhere,
As the ivy weaves.

Then comes summer,
Warm sun and beaches,
Getting sun-burnt,
And bitten by leaches.

Now there is autumn,
There's leaves on the ground,
All yellow and red,
In a huge mound.

And last comes winter,
All cold and so dark,
In a child's eyes,
I see a spark.

Gruesome Twosome by Holly (aged 10)

Double, double toil and trouble
Fire burn and cauldron bubble

Leg of dragon, head of pig,
Sick of mummy and skeleton's wig,
Pumpkin's brain and oozing blood,
Reddy jam and slimy mud
Lizard's eye and pumpkin seeds

For the power of cauldron bubble
Double, double toil and trouble

Tests by Emma R. (aged 10)

Sitting on your desk
Waiting to be answered
Waiting to be written on
Has so many questions
As nerve-wracking as being on Broadway
Finally answered and being graded
Waiting, waiting, waiting
Yeah! I got a 100%!

Crying Child by Danielle (aged 11)

Crying child that is he,
Red eyes full of sadness,
Yet he wanders in the street,
Impatiently looking for a shelter,
Now war has finished and his parents are done for,
Gone forever without a peep of them.

Crying child why do you cry?
Hope could be close,
It might be me or someone else
Look a little further,
Don't let war take over your life!

Pink by Shannon McFerran (Year 4)

As pink as a flower blooming
In a summer breeze.
As pink as a bike
All shiny and new!
Pink like jelly
All wobbly on a plate.
As pink as a heart
Beating at the sight of true love.
As pink as a butterfly
Fluttering in the breeze!
As pink as a bunny
Escaping on the egg hunt!

Spring I Love You by Charlotte Farmer (aged 10)

You are so beautiful and so quiet,
You are the best season!
The birds sing,
The days get longer,
Everything is green!

Easter by Jade Williams

Easter is a time for bunnies,
And chocolate eggs that fill your tummies.

Daffodils bloom during Easter,
It's time to create an odd looking creature.

Easter is what my poem's about,
Now its time to shout it out!!!

Homework by Sierra M. (aged 10)

Homework comes every night
It gives everyone a fright
You give it abuse
And make an excuse
And the teacher gives you a bite!

If I Was a Star by Laura and Orla (Year 5)

I would shine all day
To annoy the moon
I would not come out at night
Because I sparkled all day

White by Blathnaid Mullan-Young (Year 4)

As white as snow falling
On a winter's day.
As white as a fluffy cat
Lying beside the fire.
White like a flat piece of paper
That I have drawn on.
White like a rubber
Rubbing out.
White paint
Being slopped onto a wall.
White like snowdrops
With their heads drooping down.
White as a cloud
Floating across the sky.
As white as a car
Driving gracefully along the road.
As white as ice-cream
That I lick.
As white as the white board
In my class.
How I love the colour white!!

My Birthday Cake by Crystal Cipriani (nearly 12)

So big and tall,
So many layers,
So many candles, burning hot,
I can't even count them,
There's such a lot!

The wax is dripping,
On my lovely cake,
''Come on! Blow them out,'' I hear them say
Wish! Wish! Wish!
And blow them all away!

Time to cut,
Yes cut up my cake,
I really can't destroy that work of art,
It's so beautiful and lovely,
It's so close to my heart...

School or No School? by Emma Clarke (aged 10)

Why do we have to go to stupid school?
Hanging out with friends will be much more cool
But then I think about it, I need a job
Without no money you'll just about afford a corn on the cob

In class I get so bored
Work and work and praying to the lord
I'd much rather be at home
But I need the money to explore Ancient Rome

After sitting there praying I let out a sigh of relief
The gospel and god is not my belief
But then i know I'm lucky to have a school
Getting a super ace job will be really cool

So from now on I'm going to try my best
The weekend is when I rest
No one will stop me now until I leave
From my primary school I will get a gift education and it will be the best gift I will ever receive

Running Out of Time by Hannah (aged 10)

Tick
We are running out of time
Tick
The ice is running low
Tick
We are breathing too much air
Tick
Most run away from it
Tick
Denying every word
Tick
The earth is disappearing
Tick
Are you afraid?
Tick...

Shining Gems by Amila Keerthichandra

Gems and stones
How valuable they are
Shining and glittering
Like a sparkling star.
Garnet and diamonds
Shine like gold and silver
Topaz and Ruby
Are also a member.

Trees by Ethan (aged 9)

Tree house
Roar in the wind
Everyone loves them
Every tree grows leaves
Say hooray for trees!

What is a Smile? by Christy Siu (aged 11)

A smile is the lovely symbol
of friendship on your friend's face.
Or, perhaps it's the smile
on your mom's face after you had
a rough and tough day.

A smile is the best thing you could get
or maybe it's love shining from your parent's hearts.
Or, is it, the friendship that radiantly glimmers
upon your best friend's face.

The Tie by Max Di Frisco (aged 7)

My team's losing by 2
5 seconds on the clock
I have the ball…
And all at once
It's a tie
OVERTIME

Watermelon by Dylann Keaney

I like watermelon
it's juicy and sweet
when I am all done, I spit out the seeds

They float to the ground like a grateful seed brigade
and once they are watered and get lots of love
they get bigger and bigger and pop!

A new water melon for me to eat
and later I spit out the seeds
can you guess what happens next?

School by Zenah (aged 9)

What should I do?
Go to which school?
Swim in which pool?
Use which tool?
Respect which rule?
What should I do?
Play with who?
Go to which zoo?
Can you give me a clue?

Piano Makes Perfect by Nariman Amin

I dream of pressing down
And a beautiful sound would play
So I went to buy a piano
And thought I would learn today

There were so many notes and keys
None of them I knew
I started to give up
And started feeling blue

I crumpled up my piano book
And threw some papers away
And as I was about to smash my piano
My mom came in to say…

"Never give up, try again,
Is what I always say.
Pick up those papers and try some more,
If you mess up, what the hey?"

Months went by, but I hung in,
And now I can finally play.
I won first prize in the talent show
The anger has gone away.

School by Amar Patel (aged 10)

A place so cool
A really special one
It's my primary School
A school such fun.

So many a-competition
Prizes to be won
All good things a tradition
My school such fun

So many sports and clubs
To be played under the sun
And then we eat our grub
In a school such fun

Our teachers are the best
They think we're number one
Although I hate the tests
In this school such fun

They always want to push us
Work we can't do: none
With their help there is no fuss
In my school such fun

There is much to talk about
In depth, I've not begun
But always without a doubt
It's the best school, such fun.

Happiness by Peter (aged 9)

Happiness is like lying in a field of yellow dandelions,
Happiness is like you're in a bath of pure blue water,
I feel happier than anything.

Blue by Eoin Doherty (Year 4)

As blue as the sky
With clouds going by.
As blue as a ball
Flying in the air.
As blue as a bottle
Smashing on a wall.
As blue as a rubber
Rubbing out words.
As blue as the sea
Splashing on the rocks.
As blue as blu-tack
Sticking on a wall.
As blue as a bag
Blowing in the wind.
As blue as a bath
Bubbling with bubbles.
As blue as a crayon
Colouring a picture.
As blue as a coat
Hanging on a hangar.
As blue as blue as blue!

Green by Conlan Carmichael (Year 4)

I like green.
Green as a greedy fat frog!
Green like a lovely
St. Patrick hat.
Green like cool Celtic jerseys!
Green as pencils, markers and crayons.
Green as a leaf
With a creeping crawling caterpillar
That bites you!!

High Chair by Emma Clarke (aged 10)

You know mum I'm really sick of this.
And it doesn't deserve a special kiss.
I've warned you mum and you know it's true
I hate not having access to the loo.
So all you do is watch and stare
Whilst I'm sat on this stupid chair
It's that high
I might as well sit in the sky.

But you wouldn't care.
Whilst I'm sat on this chair.
I could fall off
Or have a bad chaff
I could sneeze
I could pound and wheeze.
But you wouldn't care
Whilst I 'm on my high chair.

How am I supposed to eat my breakfast cereal
How am I to cry if I choke on a mint imperial
What about if I starved so much I happened to die
You wouldn't see me sat so far up in the sky.

To me mum it's like a punishment and makes me cry
Sat so far up in the sky.
I'm sorry mum for all I do
Just get me down I need the loo.

Blue by Owen Martin (Year 4)

Blue, blue violets
Are blue.
So is the sky
And rain too!
Handbag and
Paint and
Puddles too.
As bitter as a
Blueberry and as
Sour as the sea.
As flat as a
Floor and as
Blue as a sea.
I like the colour blue.
You should
Like it too!

The Girl Who Played Football
by Emma Clarke (aged 10)

Football, football, football
Where shall I start?
Breaking legs or a body part.
The loudness of cheering
Deafens your hearing
All the players are hunky and strong
Never small, always long
I hate it, I hate it, I hate it
Where as for I, I am a girl
My hair always beautiful with the extra curl
My nails as long and shiny as can be
But all the players take no notice of me
Me to them is like a mouse to me
They would not notice if i had sailed to sea
I hate it, I hate it, I hate it!
But then one day on the football pitch
My eyes went a blur and I was no longer a titch
I was hunky and giantly tall
In haste I ran for the ball
When the ball was down at my feet
I had never felt so un-neat
My shorts were tacky and my knees were mucky
In my life I've never felt so lucky
I took on five
All the players doing pathetic dives
There was I with just the keeper to beat
By this time I was under the heat
My bones tensed in my shoe
Suddenly the fans let out a great WAA WHOO!!
I had scored I really had
And I'm a girl and not a lad
It really was the best goal of all
And it was the first time I had kicked a ball.

Talent Show by Hannah Berg (aged 11)

Gulp! I'm on the stage,
no turning back now.
Why did I agree to do this?
My band members smile encouragingly
but I want to leave.
We have been practicing
for this
for a long time.
I am scared anyway
I open my mouth and sing
perfectly.
The whole world is silent
just for me.
Even the band is as quiet
as mosquitoes at dawn.

Lost in Space by Crystal Cipriani (aged 11)

Here I am, lost deep in space,
Feeling like a lonely ghost,
I'll be here for many days,
I'd better make the most.

The moon is like a shining pearl,
The sun is like a rusty coin,
Saturn seems to want to twirl,
The others start to join.

The colours really do contrast,
Like a firework display,
Crazy comets shooting past,
Nothing like everyday.

In the distance there's a goth
Wearing a long sooty dress
Diamonds sprinkled on the cloth
It does suit her, I must confess.

Baby Pluto, the lost child,
Jupiter, the mighty one,
Uranus, the one who's mild,
And also the giant Sun.

I don't have any regrets,
On my lonely journey back
No aliens I saw or met,
Did I ever see attack.

Candy by Elijah Rakha-Sheketoff (aged 8)

Sweet,
Yummy
Colorful
Sticky
It's hard to get to,
I know it is bad for me,
BUT,
Just one more piece.
Oh man, please bring down the candy.

Life is Hard When You're a Pencil by Hannah Berg (aged 11)

"Ooh! Ouch! Not the sharpener!"
The purple pencil shouted,
"No don't erase my work!"
The purple pencil pouted,
"Wait don't leave me on the floor,"
The purple pencil whined,
"Pick me up don't leave me here
For someone else to find."

The Russian Doll by Gregor Airey (aged 7)

As precious as a wedding ring
As bright as gold
As colourful as a rainbow,
She looks like a bunch of flowers.

As pretty as a swan
She is covered in spots and twirls
As important as silk
As beautiful as the queen.

With blue eyes like the ocean
As shiny as the sea
As glittery as the sand
As hot as the sun.

The African Drum by Emily Lishman (aged 8)

The lions are coming to attack
They're gonna eat us up in one big snap.
We're beating our drums to spread the word.

The drums aren't working so we'd better hurry up
Our minds are on fire
We're scared out of our wits.

We're safe inside our humble homes
We're safe as can be
The jungle is our home
The drum is the best.

We hope the world heard the drum beating away
They must be deaf if they didn't hear the drum
It's the loudest thing in the jungle
The lions must be hungry if they didn't get their catch.

Anfeild Road by Ethan (aged 11)

I was made up that we beat Inter Milan at Anfield Road.
I'm proud to present Liverpool as our favourite team.
They make me so happy, they make me beam.
We need to get a goal at the SanSiro, and they have to get four.
I don't think that Carragher, Hypia and Raina will let them past at all.
On corners I think Reina will run out and clear the ball.
The boys will do it for us.
Gerrard and Fernando Torres will make a counter attack.
If we play like when we played A.C Milan, we'll get the cup back.
Gerrard gets up in the air and scores a great header.
It took a little deflection on Baros, like a mini earthquake.
Smicer smashed it into the back of the net.
We do it all again next week, easily, I'll bet.

The Russian Princess by Anna Jackson (aged 7)

She's as pretty as a swan
She's the only one
Her lips as red as fire
Her eyes are like twinkling stars.
Her dress is like rubies and silk
Her hair is like crystals.

She smells like lavender
She's as precious as gold
She's richer than a king
She's as delicate as gems.
Her skin shines like the sun.

The Strange Girl by Karolina Janina (aged 11)

The Burning Candle by Freya Mills (aged 9)

The creamy colours of the candle.
A flame is burning with a sweet smell.
Everyone is excited,a birthday has started.
Meanwhile the candle is constant and still.
The candle makes no noise.
And burns with a soft light, heat is near.
Colours are dancing like a bunch of flowers.
It's as dangerous as can be.
But it's melting as slow as a slug.
And the party is ending.
And the candle has been blown out.

Sunrise by Kai (aged 10)

Dark nights wither
as the sun rises
vibrant pink in the sky.
The water goes from black to blue.
The ripples in the water
have the energy of lively fish.
The night becomes the day,
bronze becomes golden.
The sun, as round as a ball,
As golden as a pound coin.

The Russian Doll by George Dobson (aged 7)

She's as beautiful as a flower
She's as pretty as gold
She looks like a princess
The princess is dancing.

The princess is rich
She is as colourful as a rainbow
She's like a diamond in the sky
Her eyes are as clean as can be.

Blue by Bogdan Nikic (aged 12)

Blue is, I guess,
When I say yes.
Blue comes out of the eyes
When a person cries.
Blue is the sky,
That will never die.
Blue is a stamp,
On a ramp.
Blue is a bruise,
That gives the brain news.
Blue is a window,
In a house.
Blue is a bed
For a mouse.
Blue, I don't doubt it,
But just imagine,
Living without it.

Red by Marisa Cosslett (aged 11)

Red is love and Valentine's Day
Red is the beautiful month of May
Red is the sound of a drum
It is the smell of a warm cinnamon bun
Red is blood also war
It is the heat of the earth's core
Red is the color of a car that passes
It is also the color of my friend's glasses

His head is baldy like an egg.

He is as athletic as a monkey.
He is 5 foot 6 inches and the greatest high flyer.
He is muscley and strong like a bull.
Rey is an underdog.

The African Drum by Richard Strong (aged 7)

The lions are coming to attack.
They're going to beat us up in one big snap.
We are beating our drums
To spread the word.

The lions are waiting

Our minds are on fire,
We're scared out of our skin.
We are safe now, the drum is the best.

Apples are red, yellow and green
They are really yummy to eat

You should eat an apple a day
Because people say:
One apple a day keeps doctors away

The Pencil by Marisa Cosslett (aged 11)

"Hey, Billy!" said the pencil,
"Don't press down on me so hard. My nose hurts!"
CRACK!
Billy moves towards the sharpener
"NO!"
TWIST TWIST
A freshly sharpened pencil

The Russian Doll by Joseph Mark (aged 8)

A precious doll came to life
On the window sill
She blinks in the sunlight
Her golden dress shines.

The people were amazed
They cried, "The doll is alive!"
She jumped downstairs
Her twists and curls shimmer.

Her eyes as blue as the sea
The stars come out
The moon appears from the darkness
The doll freezes on the window sill.

Nervous by Marisa Cosslett (aged 9)

It was time for me to say my line
My palms were sweaty
I couldn't say a word
It was like someone had pressed the pause button on me
Finally I managed to mumble the words out
I breathed a sigh of relief
It was over

Blue by Karolina Janina (aged 11)

Blue is the sky

Tom in the Dark House by Bogdan Nikic (aged 12)

As Tom walked into the house,
It all became very dark,
Tom couldn't see his hand
A front of his scared face.

The floor was screeching,
And the lights were buzzing
And the icy wind was blowing
On the blood red curtains

Tom quickly got to the roof,
And he saw a dark shadow,
That was made by the bright,
Midnight moon on the sky.

The shadow got closer to Tom,
His hands were shaking,
Fear was flowing through him,
He turned around and tried to run.

But it was too late, way too late,
Would you like to know why it was
Way too late?
It was just Tom's dream.

Updated 3rd March 2008

Bye Bye by Faith Child (aged 7)

It's the end of the story.
I hope we see each other again
There is a big hole in my heart.
You know.

Why has it happened to me?
I don't know. I don't know.
Please tell me.

There is a big space in my heart.
I hope it will join to another
I will miss you very much.
Bye Bye.
I will miss you very much.

Snowflakes by Lexi Sunbergm (aged 11)

Snowflakes falling gently
Wind rushing past my cheeks.
Laughter drifting to my ears.
Sweet snow filling my mouth.
Crisp ice running beneath me.
I'm sledding.
Snow drapes me in her veil
Wind kisses my cheeks.
Frost grasps my hair
Cold nips my nose.
Ice grips my fingers.
I'm in a magical wonderland
Of snow.
It feels like a dream.
But it is reality.

Emotions by Michael Smith Hartley (aged 9)

When I'm sad I want to cry, but there's no tears dropping from my eyes.
When I'm scared I close my eyes, and think of something else.
When I'm happy I laugh with joy, and mess about with all the boys.
When I'm angry I bash about, and want to shout without a doubt
When I'm excited
I jump up and down turn around and around then fall to the ground.
When I'm grumpy I mope about,
I sit in silence stare into space with a long face.
Its best to be happy 'cos sad and angry are not very nice
and happy is good, happy is nice.

Why War? by Paige Taylor (aged 11)

Why war?
Why sorrow?
Why tears?
Why blood?
Why war in the first place?
Why war?
Look at all the wars we've been through
And right now even
Haven't we learned?
War is not a good thing?
Why killing?
Why shots?
Why youth getting killed?
And the parents crying on the news?
Why husband and wife
Not getting to see each other?
Can't we all be on the same PAGE?
Love and harmony
Imagine
Why can't we carry on John Lennon's dream?
And all I ask
Is
Why war?

Four Seasons by Maya Gouw (aged 10)

When the flowers bud
Life is truly greener
On the other side
The raw smell of joy
Pulls down the zipper that shows
The true wild side
The only flowers
That didn't wither for you
Are made to be yours.
Snow blankets whisper
The chaos and harshness cries
"I won't face defeat."
The variety
In the four seasons bring life
Just might never stop.

Flamingo and Kalie by Kalie Enderlayle (aged 10)

Flamingo, Flamingo, how did you become so pink?
Kalie, Oh Kalie, I eat shrimps.
Flamingo, Flamingo, how did you become so elegant?
Kalie, Oh Kalie, I don't eat calories,
Flamingo, Flamingo, how can you stay on one leg for so long?
Kalie, Oh Kalie, it's just the way I am.
Flamingo, Flamingo, why are you so famous?
Kalie, Oh Kalie, I can't answer that one.

But if you are pink
You will not blink.

The Microwave Pie by Miranda Robshaw (aged 11)

You stare at the red hot microwave pie,
Its crust all red, the heat will not die!
The microwave pie.
The steaky juiciness within, It's calling you,
but you will not give in
and the golden yellow buttery skin!
The microwave pie.
You place the napkin on your lap
and reach for THE PIE.
It's red hot but you don't care
so you take a bite
of the microwave pie.
Ahhh!
The white hot sauce flows into your mouth,
the heat like fire, your eyes open wider and wider,
The microwave pie.
You spit the juicy goodness out, it called you, and
you gave in.
The microwave pie.

Branches sway lightly

Feeling Sick by James Yenat (aged 11)

I was feeling sick
Just like a stick
My head was feeling pressured
With the slightest gesture

When I walked I would feel dizzy
And if I fell I didn't throw a tizzy
If we get sick
We just have to stick with what the doctor prescribed us

Behind the Printer by Maya Gouw (aged 10)

Behind the layers of dust on the barely-used printer,
Lies a secret that will change the course of history,
But, just a peek will send you rushing out in a hurry.
For the poor mice that live under the printer
Dust will make a good bed.

But the day I touch that mouse is the day I really dread.
One day, we printed with that printer,
And the message comes out wrong,
"The treasure is gone, you had your chance; so long!"

So by now we have given up with the treasure and the printer,
Though it was quite a mystery,
'It would come back' was a thought that made me worry.
So I checked back behind the printer
To make sure it wasn't there,
My sorrow was shown bare.

It was not even dusty behind the printer.
There was nothing in sight,
Clean as glass, I was ready to pick a fight.
As I turned around still looking at the printer,
My family crowded and yelled "APRIL FOOLS!"
And I was ready to get rid of all rules.

The Cottage in the Hills by William Coombs (aged 9)

Jet black are the mountains silhouetted in the moonlight.
Fire red is the sun setting in the west,
And the land is a green knotted sea.

But in the house not even a mouse scuttles,
Quiet reigns supreme.

For jet black are the pavings that pave the floor.
Fire red are the embers that glow in the hearth,
And the rafters are a snow white drift.

And outside a storm is brewing,
And inside the stew is cooking.

Home Sweet Home by Year Five (St. Columba's P.S.)

In my home I can smell;
Flowers in a vase and apple pie in the oven.
In my home I can see;
The fire's reflection and my family sitting together.
In my home I can hear;
Visitors laughing and birds singing at dawn.
In my home I can taste;
Fresh fruit from the bowl and pancakes drowned in syrup.
In my home I can feel;
Mum's soft hugs and all my family's love.

My Body Parts by Ashwathy Murali (aged 7)

When I stand before the mirror
I feel so proud
For my two eyes and ears
And a mouth to talk aloud.

Each little part
Helps me a lot
Do you want to know
What work they have got

Two little eyes to see things good
Two little ears to hear what I should
A nose that smells all delicious treats
One long tongue to taste what I eat

Hands to work and legs to walk
Fingers to feel and to eat my meal
All my body parts work together
To make me healthy and happy for ever.

Fiery Dragon by Joy Pisanu (aged 11)

One day I found an egg,
And wondered when it would hatch,
It turned out to be a dragon,
So I decided to call it Patch.

I tried to tell my mother,
I tried to tell my dad,
But when I started to talk,
My parents would go mad.

I decided to take him down,
To show that I was right,
But when they said I was imagining things,
I got into a fight.

The next day I went to school,
And came back very late,
I forgot to feed the dragon,
And my parents were what he ate!

Sun by Alec Pan (aged 12)

Sun
The orange butter that smears colored flavor across the pale sky
Sun
The interminable light that gives us power
Sun
The red hot furnace that gives us heat
Sun
The super battery that fuels the moon
Sun
The large magnet that the planets sprint around
Sun
The gaseous core of our solar system
Sun
The friend of humans

The Little Child and a Bee by Claudia Taylor (aged 11)

Mummy!
A bee, a bee!
She stung me!
Mummy,
Why do they sting?
And why doesn't
The Queen Bee
Have a King?

Well, child,
Said the mother,
She laughed as she spoke,
For one thing,
Does this Queen need a bloke?
And everyone dies,
So the bees have to, too,
So stinging people is what they do.

Have I answered your questions,
My dear little son?
No, I have another one.

The Invasion Of The Rock by Joy Pisanu (aged 11)

One day I went to the shops,
And bought a pretty pet rock,
Now it's taking over my life,
And sleeps inside my sock.

I give it mud for dinner,
I take it with me to school,
But when he meets with other rocks,
He begins to rattle and drool.

I know you won't believe it,
But can't you look and see,
That my innocent looking pet rock,
Is so much stronger than me!

Memories by Joy Pisanu (aged 11)

All those memories from last year,
There not something you should fear,
All the things that have occurred,
All the things that you have heard,
Just remember they're not lost,
You'll see them again at any cost,
All those memories from last year,
You can just listen,
Can you hear?
They are calling,
They're not gone,
Come and switch them all back on.

Riddle by Lucy (aged 11)

My 1st is in blood and also in battle,
My 2nd in oak, acorn, apple,
My 3rd and 4th are both the same,
The middle of sorrow and twice in refrain,
My 5th starts eternity ending here,
My last is first of last. Oh dear

Life by Katie Scrowston (aged 8)

Life is like a cherry
Sweet, with a hard stone inside
Life is a damp patch on the carpet
That mum tries to hide
Life is like a door that is locked -
When you find the key you can enter the garden
Life is a bar of lemming-scented soap
Life is the name of the game
and I want to play the game with you
Life is like an orange
With lots of different juicy segments.

10 Things Left in a Fridge by Isobel Gladston (aged 9)

1 can of not-so-fizzy Tango,
2 yoghurts that went off years ago,
3 Easter eggs from when I was five,
4 black potatoes that are just about alive,
5 chicken satay sticks,
And something else that might have nits.
4 tubs of green crème fraiche,
3 cakes which aren't so fresh,
2 litres of lemonade,
And some purple cookies my brother made.

Looking For A Poem by Claudia Taylor (aged 11)

One day I wrote a poem,
And I wondered where it came from.

I looked inside a flower
In my mum's garden
It was too small to possibly fit.

I looked on the bottom of my shoe
All I found was dirt
And some lint
My poem wouldn't be there.

I looked in my backpack,
Not there.

No, poems aren't anywhere
Except your heart.

Fire by Danielle Wu (aged 10)

Fire keeps us warm in the cold,
It lights our way when it's dark.
Remember fire can also be our guard,
Ease people's pain with the love from our hearts.

Icing Sugar and Biscuits by Lydia Skelton (aged 11)

Some people like mushrooms
Some people like sprouts
Some people like beetroot
I have my doubts
I don't see the point
In weeping for briskets
If you look in the cupboard there's
ICING SUGAR AND BISCUITS!
Who needs chocolate?
Who needs sweet?
Who needs cheese that smells of feet?
I don't try anything I just can't risk it
When I can have
ICING SUGAR ON A BISCUIT!
They say it's unhealthy
I say it's great
But even better is
ICING SUGAR AND BISCUITS ON A PLATE
Who'd grab a banana?
Who'd grab a pear?
WHEN ICING SUGAR AND BUISCUITS ARE THERE?

Odd Poem by Sean McEvoy

Ten years old
Hens lay eggs
again and again
they have weird legs
but they aren't men

Gum gum it's sticky
but it is not icky
You can chew all day
till the end of May

Night, Night by Amy (aged 10)

I look at the time,
The clocks hit nine,

My mum takes my hand,
Leads me upstairs and

I have a bath.
We both have a laugh,

Snuggled up in bed,
Then my mum said,

As you've been so nice,
I'll sing you Edelwiess,

At my mum, I have one last peep,
Before I, fall asleep.

Haunted House by Gilbert Ratcliffe (aged 12)

The old shack creaked
How had this been beautiful
Even in daylight it seemed a bit spooky.

Hearing the grandfather clock
Amongst the woodwork
Unearthly murmurs whispers, wail
Night descends
The floor boards groan
Eerie sounds everywhere the night is alive
Derelict rooms.

Haunting cries surround me
Odd shadows flicker across every wall
Unnerving
Swathed in mist
Eventually dawn breaks.

Miss May by Paige Taylor (aged 11)

Fourth grade
We met
Our birthdays
A day apart
We found out
When I was sad
That my assistant
Would be going
Soon
To have a baby
You were right there
You've been a role model for me
Ever since
I hope to have you again
The secrets that I could not tell
Any other teacher
I told you

I hope you go from Miss May
To Mrs. Scott
That would mean so much to me
A lot
To have a baby
Like Molly did
I hope I know you in the future
Erica May

Shopping by Ali (aged 9)

Crisps are fine
Which costs a dime
I can buy a game
Or be so lame

I can buy anything
But can't go to the shop called Ling
If I do I'll lose all my money
And eat revolting honey

The Place by Amber Dickey (age 12)

The hills seem to come alive when the sun starts to set on the horizon.
They seem to sing to you when the sun hits them just right in the morning.
The grass seems to whisper its sweet lullabies of a thousand years. Sometimes the trees seem to have tears.
The animals seem to live in peace.
Not fearing the human race.
The streams seem to take a life of their own.
Not knowing where they'll flow.

The Right to Protection by Jonathan Wong (aged 10)

He's afraid of going out of the rubbish dump,
Sitting there, still as a stump.

He's covered in bruises and smears of red,
'Cause some guys bounced up, he was hit in the head.

He creeps around the dangerous city,
Scared of bullies, what a pity.

Ever since he lost his mum,
He won't know what may come.

He is so sad, he is so scared,
To creep outside, he hasn't dared.

Compared to others, he's too weak,
Compared to others, on the street.

Why is this boy so alone,
Without a family, without a home?

Not cared for in a rubbish dump,
Can somebody help him?

Floods by Katie Freeman (aged 9)

Fish. (Should fishing be a sport?) by Tyler Clarke (aged 9)

Yesterday my brother
Today my sister
Tomorrow my dad
The next day me.

It's a new day
Me and my friends
Hide in horror
That one day it might be us.

Today three others are picked of
And sold to some people for a fiver
And tomorrow
It might be me.

Today I am raised up into the air
A needle sharp hook going through my top lip
Causing me excruciating pain
Next I will be killed.

I will be fried in batter
And served up with some chips
Please help stop fishing.

PLEASE!!!

STOP! Anorexia's calling

To make you feel good but look bad

You can die like Melissa from Hollyoaks

Depressing for your family
Vile towards the fat
Get off the train
Death's calling

Ruin their lives
Understand how they feel
Emaciated so you can see their bones
Loved by no one

Clinging for some more life

Like someone turned it off

Like I have betrayed the gorgeous wonderful warm world

The Afghanistan War is Really Out There
by Andy Jones (aged 11)

Contact to your heart

A clap as it peaces the air
Timing in the shot is everything

Ignoring the fact that your life will…
Never be the same

Actual life is what your living

Growing up while you're out there
Hammering and chipping away
Aiming for the shot
Never giving up
Injecting the pain
Sized just right
Touched at such force
Attacking bang
Need to shoot…need to shoot

BANG!!

When it caused the floods it was really bad
And the people will burn with the earth

Sea Pollution by Felix Liber (aged 10)

Once upon a time on the lawless sea
I was sitting on the jagged pink coral
When suddenly riding the next briny wave
Came a huge black mass of horror
And as I called to the eel to flash the S.O.S
It settled right next to the eel who was put to the test
Just a little later as reinforcements arrived
We decided to swim in and kill it
But as my friends dived into this
Pestilent poison I realized they were heading for expected extinction
So I hung back and watched them die with eyes of a dismayed grief
And when the last one died the murderer was swept away

But now that I'm older and wiser than I was I know it was bookless butchery
But that won't bring back the dead…
But that won't bring back the dead…
