The
Old Oak by Tom Curr (aged 6)
Standing still,
No one to talk to,
Wishes to have a friend to talk to.
Then, that night a boy came
And planted a seed.
That night it rained
And the seed grew and GREW and GREW!
Now the old oak has someone to talk to!
As part of the Take One Picture Project (National
Gallery) we have used the painting of The Fighting Temeraire by Turner
to inspire the following poems.
The Ghost Ship by Bailey Elen-Coghlan

Banging, booming
Ghost ship!
Creepy, wooden, old
Ghost ship!
Dark, damp, broken
Ghost Ship!
The terrible Temeraire!
Ghost Ship by Luka Jenner (aged 5)
The gloomy ship, the frightening ship,
The banging ship, the booming ship.
The scary ship, the creaking ship.
The wooden ship, the creaky ship,
The splashing ship, the floating ship.
The creepy ship, the dark ship,
The broken ship, the cold ship.
The damp ship, the whooshing, freezing ship.
Ghost ship!
The Ghost Ship by
Megan Wallis (aged 6)
Down on the wooden floor
It is creepy.
Ghost ship!
Banging, booming
Ghost ship!
Creepy, dark, broken
Ghost ship!
Gloomy, creaking, old
Ghost ship!
Crashing
Broken,
Damp,
Ghost ship!
The Ghost Ship by Illyana Backshall (aged
6)
Down on the waves,
A ghost ship,
Creepy and scary.
Old damp whooshing
Ghost ship!
Booming, dark and scary

Broken waves banging, freezing
The ghost ship.
Smashing, freezing, cold and gloomy,
Recycled?
Ghost ship!

I
am a wasp as stripy as can be.

I sound like a tiger munching on some meat.
As I crawl along your hand I will tickle you step by step.

I am a caterpillar look at me.

Wish I Was
by Class 1, Leaf Lane School
I
wish I was a sparkly mermaid swimming in the cold glittery sea.
I wish I was a white horse trotting to a busy town.
I wish I was a big strong alien fighting the man in the moon.
I wish I was a red fox hunting for my prey in the scary forest.
I wish I was a white magical unicorn galloping through the starry night.
I wish I was a cuddly teddy bear playing tennis in the massive park.
I wish I was a fierce dangerous shark munching scared fish.
I wish I was a prowling leopard hunting for food for my starving cubs.
I wish I was a brave knight with golden shiny armour guarding the castle.
So I'll wish on a shooting star.

Visiting
the Natural History Museum by Merlin (aged 6)
At

We saw a big T Rex that looked mighty scary
And two other dinosaurs
That were very small
We bought a dinosaur
That hasn't got a name yet
(because we haven't thought of one)
We continued on walking
Until we got out
Then Roger, Mum and me
Went to the café
Roger sat next to no one
And Mum sat next to me
We had some pizza and pasta
Some lemonade, a Diet Coke and a coffee.

Counting
Steps by Merlin (aged 6)
One,
two, three
Mum, Roger and me
Went to the Science Museum
And saw science going on.
Four, five, six
We saw spaceships
And satellites swarming round the Earth
Like interstellar bees*
Seven, eight, nine
We went down to the basement
And pressed a lot of buttons
And pulled a lot of levers
Backwards and forwards
And left and right
Ten, eleven, twelve
Up to 58
That's how many steps we climbed
To reach the aeroplanes.
*Mum
wrote this bit.
Kites

Kites
suspended, swoop and sway,
Over the house on a windy day.
Kites
so graceful, swirling all the way,
Over the house on a breezy day.
Kites
sagging by the weight they weigh,
Flapping by the house on a hailing day.
Soggy
kites being blown away,
Flop by the house on a sleeting day.

Fire by Indigo Class Year 2
Long,
pointed orange flames
Glowing in the dark
Like the setting sun going down
Sparks sprinkle and float down slowly
Gently to the ground
A purply blue centre to the colourful flames
Swirling grey smoke rising to the sky
Wiggly and gliding up in the air
Danger, don't go to near!
Red hot flames make the air shimmer
Now its time to say goodbye
The fire has gone to sleep
All is dark and black
Except for the moon in the sky

by Elyse (aged 7)
Pets are cute and cuddly.

Dogs lick.
Kitties play in the sun for a long time.
Puppies play in the sun, too.
Puppies pull on their leashes to run because they want to jump in the
pool.
Fish swim with their tails wiggling so they can go places.
You need a fish tank so fish can live.
You cannot get a shark for the fish tank because it would be too big.
Birds flap their wings to fly.
They look beautiful in their cage.
Talking parrots copy whatever you say and you can do jokes with talking
parrots because they like jokes.
Lizards like to climb and go everywhere but you probably wouldn't let
the lizard out of his cage because he might go everywhere and if your
Mom or Dad is afraid of lizards, that would be a disaster.
All kinds of pets are fun and play a lot.

We saw the cloak the Mayor wears
But she or he didn't have a pet bear.
We saw the olden days jail
But the prisoners didn't have a bow on their tail.
It was raining cats and dogs
So I leapt over the sleeping frogs.
Our next stop was the Bingo hall
But we didn't go inside it at all.
We didn't distrub the GPs in the Tudor House
In case they turned into the shape of a mouse.
The next stop was the Church
Which nearly looked like my sister's skirt.
Then suddenly the rain stopped
And it made a very big PLOP.

There
was a sportsman
He wanted to play every sport,
Everyday he played each one sport,
But one day he couldn't play sports,
Then he stopped all the sports,
But he liked sports,
He couldn't forget what sports he did,
In his dreams he always was remembering the sports he played,
Then really he suddenly became a sportsman again,
And he became happily ever after!

Looking
Down Under the Grass by Henry Jennings (aged 6)
Walking through the grass there is not that much wild.
But underneath the grass there are more living things.
Roots of the grass are nice for the bugs.
So, if you're looking for bugs that is where you will find them.
Also, animals hide in the grass, like hares and rabbits.
It is very hard for us to tell a hare from a rabbit, but this is how.
What you do is you look for the black tips on its ears
and then that's a hare.
But let's get on to above the grass.
What is above the grass is deer and cows and sheep and goats.
Also, other things live above the grass: trees, lamas, bushes,
horses and donkeys, elephants, lions, tigers, leopards, cheetahs.

I wish I was a glittery mermaid, gliding in the aqua, wavy sea,
I wish I was an octopus, choking all the sharks in the deep dark ocean,
I wish I was a silver motorbike, speeding down the road with hot wheels
I wish I was a wobbly shiny tooth in someone's mouth with them trying
to take me out,
I wish I was a purry, ginger and white, silky, warm kitten, lying on a
bed,
I wish I was a slimy alien, called Simon Jelly, munching a human on Earth,
